Both Glastonbury and Wells have compact centres where many daily destinations sit within a short walk. That makes active travel plausible in a way that newer dispersed settlements often struggle to replicate.

The policy challenge is to make walking and cycling safer without pretending cars can disappear from rural Somerset. The opportunity is balance, not purity.
